According to the Associated Press, one person was killed when a Miley Cyrus tour bus hit an embankment and overturned on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County, which is located about 40 miles south of Richmond, Virginia. Miley Cyrus was not on board, according to Virginia State Police.

Sgt. Thomas Molner told The Associated Press that the person killed in the Miley Cyrus bus crash was a male, but did not disclose his identity due to the fact that his next of kin have not yet been notified. One other person suffered injuries as a result of the Miley Cyrus bus crash (there were a total of nine people on board) and was taken to a local hospital. The bus was one of four Miley Cyrus tour buses that were headed to Greensboro, North Carolina, where the 16-year-old singing sensation is slated to perform on Sunday.

Back in August, another tour bus accident involving pop music artists hit the headlines. In this case, the accident involved the Christian rock band MercyMe; the tragic accident occurred in Fort Wayne, Indiana when the band's tour bus struck a car, killing two passengers. None of the members of MercyMe were hurt. Interestingly, at the time of the accident, MercyMe lead singer Bart Millard reported the tragic news via Twitter:

"Car just hit our tour bus, Tweeted Millard. "We are OK, but 2 in the car did not make it."

In the two cases noted above, the singers lives were spared. Sadly, that has not always been the case with respect to other singers who have been involved in transportation-related accidents.

Rock icon Buddy Holly died in an airplane crash at the age of 22. Prior to his tragic and untimely death, Buddy Holly established himself as a tremendous talent and made an immense contribution to Rock music. His hits include "That'll Be the Day," "Rave on," and "Not Fade Away."

On New Year's Eve, 1985, singer Ricky Nelson (who first burst onto the scene when he starred with his brother and parents in the seminal TV series "Ozzie & Harriet") was killed in an airplane crash. Ricky Nelson is best known for his signature hit, "Garden Party."
