The Manhattan Declaration: Christianity's Statement to the Government

What Will the Fallout Be?

The "Manhattan Declaration" is something that you should be aware of. The Manhattan Declaration is something that puts the "government on notice." The "Manhattan Declaration will probably elicit some response and I'm guessing a lot will be negative because people don't like it when any private group puts the government "on notice."

James A. Smith Sr. has written an article on the "Florida Baptist Witness" titled "Blog: Why the "Manhattan Declaration" on religious liberty matters."

Charles Colson authored the Manhattan Declaration and it has been signed in New York by many religious leaders. People are continuing to sign it.

Why was the Manhattan Declaration written and why do Christians feel they must "state their case?"

The government is moving along with respect to health care and they include in this movement what they see as moral. They see abortion as moral and legal.

Just because something is legal that something may not be moral.

Christians today have already been given a back seat to education and other world-religions by our country.

However, the government has indicated they are not happy with this reaction because it promises to pull people to the other side of the health care issue and take away further from what the government wants and that is no problems and no questions asked.

I would say here something that I think is very important.

If you say to the average person on the street that Christians could become persecuted they will laugh at you.

However if you listen to some of the Washington D.C. outpouring of angry comments from people like Pelosi, Christians are enemies of "the people." Of course "the people" are those who agree with Pelosi.

However on a more personal note I occasionally write a religious article because in addition to other things I am a Bible student. The hatred and vicious comments that I get are so amazing even in articles that are not controversial.

The simple reason is that God illustrates that man is not the be-all-end-all of life and people do not like that.

The Manhattan Declaration ends by saying that they will "render to Caesar what is Caesar's but not what is God's..."
