When it comes to your mainstay Wisconsin Friday night Fish-fry, North-Central Wisconsin has plenty of hot spots to choose from. You can't drive past a tavern without smelling the fish cooking. Let's just say that in Wisconsin, the Friday Fish-fry is like a Cheese-steak in Philly or apple pie to Amer
ica. So out of literally a 100 choices in the greater Wausau area what's the best fish fry in town? For my money, I'd have to say that the fish-fries prepared at Wiggly Field and Dome rank at the top.

Now the first thing that strikes you about Wiggly is the shear size of the establishment. Pat and Joanne Paluch have remodeled and expanded within the last 5 years to make one of the areas premiere sports bar-restaurants of the area. The knotty pine walls and vaulted ceilings help create an openness that makes everyone feel welcome. A multitude of TV's are tuned to all the states sports teams and the cliental list covers everyone from teachers, to construction workers, to factory employees, to lawyers, retirees, and local business owners.

But the one thing that really packs them in is the Friday night Fish-fry. Opening at 11:00AM sharp daily and serving fish until around 8:00PM on Friday's, Wiggly turns out just around 700 fish-fries on average. Their mainstay is the heaping plate of Pollack, breaded with Pat's own special home made breading, which is flavorful, but doesn't take away from the fish. All fish-fries are served with your choice of potato, coleslaw, homemade tarter, and rye bread. If you're adventurous and like spicy, ask for your fish to be in their one of a kind Cajun breading. That'll leave you with a bead sweat and a thirst for another frosted mug of beer.
