Why We Should All Care the Oprah Winfrey Show is Ending in 2011
Oprah Winfrey announced that her show will be ending in September, 2011. This will end The Oprah Winfrey Show which has been a staple of media culture for America since the 1980's and has brought us many amusing moments whether we have watched regularly with our bon-bons such as Peggy Bundy or have simply known The Oprah Winfrey Show through the news such as when an A-list celebrity actor decides to go bonkers because he is in love.
Even if you are not like the fictional Peggy Bundy and have not watched The Oprah Winfrey Show religiously, you always know about the latest big Oprah news. The woman is an icon who for many is more welcome into their lives than a rain cloud in a Saharan desert. David Letterman himself has mockingly gushed at Oprah Winfrey and how powerful she has become because of her show and it is that mythical status which makes Oprah interesting and worth keeping around. While she has a future with the Oprah Network, her main vehicle to success is ending and that is sad and certainly something to miss.
For instance, how can you forget the Oprah weight changes? Come on, we have all felt a little ashamed showing up to work on a Monday after a passionate weekend with a tub of ice cream, thinking the world can see that extra five pounds clinging to our gut. Oprah Winfrey has shown up to do her show whether she was at 237 pounds or 160. The message from Oprah has been, do not give up the fight simply because we are all suckers for a double cheeseburger!
