Acupressure is one of the anger management methods being taught today. Acupressure is the rubbing or gentle tapping of the body. Vigorously massaging you body when you feel stressed or upset helps your energy move about your body causing you to feel more relaxed. This can be combined with the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). EFT is compared to acupuncture minus the needles and said to rid the body of negative energy.
Some anger management counselors recommend keeping a journal. Writing about what angers you makes it easier to see what triggers your anger and it also allows you to leave it go rather than dwelling on it. It is best to journal with as many details as possible. It is also helpful to be able to review your actions to be able to see where changes can be made and what can be done to avoid volatile situations.
One of the most effective skills is avoidance and this is easy to practice once you have figured out how it works. Many people know the situations that "push their buttons." Once you know what these situations are you should avoid them. If you eliminate the cause, the result will be different. Learning to avoid situations that trigger negative responses is something that is taught to anyone recovering from an addiction. People with anger issues are the same. If you know that the situation is a problem, walk the other direction.
