In my book ventures I've met many writers who ink a deal and believe that signing the contract with their publisher is the final rung on the ladder. The number one tip I give aspiring writers is that you have to be ready to promote your book if you want to be successful. Some meet that suggestion with apprehension, others dive right in for the challenge. Sure you want to write a five star book and hope that fact alone will make it sprout wings and fly off the shelves, but I've seen hype alone sell books as consumers eagerly snatched up copies, proving that promotion is the key! Here are five basic things to keep in mind when it comes to book promotion.

You must have a web presence even if it's only your book, the ISBN# and the ordering information. Have a basic email address where the readers and book clubs and other admirers can contact you directly with questions. Give them someplace to leave feedback, maybe a message board. There are tons of free ones out there and guestbooks too. When someone wants to shower you with praise about your recent release�€"it's wonderful if they have an outlet. If you decide to do a mailing list (which I highly suggest) your website is the perfect place to make that link available. Creating a web presences give you a home base where readers and people interested in you and your book know they can log on and find out about you. Domains are available for $25 annually or less oftentimes with $0 monthly hosting at places like Doteasy.com. Don't get bogged down with high fees from brokers and resellers.
