Manny Pacquiao made history on Saturday, November 14th by earning his seventh title in as many weight divisions with his 12th round TKO of Miguel Cotto.

Cotto stood fast after being knocked down twice in the match, but Pacquiao's speed and endurance proved too much. Referee Kenny Bayless stopped the match at 55 seconds into the 12th round.

The Filipino Pacquiao, known by his moniker Pacman, began his boxing career at the 112 pound flyweight division and captured an unprecedented seventh world title in seven weight divisions with his welterweight victory Saturday night.

Cotto, who coming into the fight had only one career loss ( a July 2008 loss to Antonio Margarito), fought hard early, winning the first round.

Pacquiao scored the first knockdown of the night early in the third round. Cotto, from Puerto Rico, continued to fight with fervor until a second knockdown in the fourth left him visibly hurt.

Following the massive left from Pacquiao, Cotto was slowed considerably, and several of his punches missed badly. Despite having to deal with an almost constant stream of blood streaming down his face, Cotto held on, while Pacquiao danced around and connected on several left hooks, battering the Puerto Rican's face.

Pacquiao proved to be the better fighter, as his agility and strength were too much for Cotto.

By the time the fight was ended, Cotto's face had become noticeably swollen, with blood flowing from several facial cuts and his nose.

The match did not only make history with Pacquiao capturing his seventh title. The fight also set historic numbers for pay-per-view boxing. By selling over 1.25 million buys (and following the estimated 1.05 million the recent Floyd Mayweather/Juan Manuel Marquez bout generated), Manny Pacquiao's victory over Miguel Cotto marks the first time in boxing history that back to back pay-per-view fights sold over a million views. It was also the first time since 1999 that two fights in the same calendar year sold over a million buys.
