With all of the media hype surrounding the announcement of Dale Earnhardt Jr. leaving DEI at the end of the season, I hope that true fans stop for a moment to consider what is best for Jr. Many questions have been brought up as to the future of DEI as well as the future of Jr. In all of the interviews over the past two days since his announcement Dale himself has seemed quite emotional. The decision that he made had to have been the hardest of his career. It is never easy to make a tremendous change whatever the case may be, however when one person affects so many that decision has to be even more difficult. Fans loyal to the #3 and DEI should look back on what Dale Sr. taught his son. To be his own man. Racing has become a business. There are millions of dollars involved as well as the welfare of each team-member and their families. Business has to be treated as such even when it is not an easy thing to do. If it was time for Jr. to make a move for his career it would only seem fair for his fans to support him in this.

Dale Jr. has been raised to be a champion. The talent that he possesses will be realized with the right team and owner support. DEI is an amazing organization there are no two ways about that. However, it may not have been the perfect organization for Jr. Other teams have shown how important it is to take the recommendations and needs of the driver and work with them to achieve their goals. The prime example this year is Jamie McMurray in the #26 Crown Royal Ford owned by Jack Roush. After a dismal season last year and more than one crew chief change, Jack Roush let Jamie participate in the selection of his new crew chief. This one factor has made a great improvement in the performance of the #26 team. Jamie has a much more positive outlook and attitude this season and it shows in his on track performance. The same may make all of the difference in the world for Dale Jr. When Tony Eury Jr was moved to another DEI team there was a huge change in Jr.'s performance. That had to be a frustrating period for Dale. Luckily Eury Jr is back with the #8 team and they are performing much better this season.

Takeaways
  • Leaving DEI is a business decison.
  • Teams perform best when the driver is the leader.
  • Support Jr. in his decisions.

That was his fathers team. With out dale sr. teresa would never be in the picture. The very idea that she would even try to control jr. is a complete insult. You go Jr. good bye teresa. Sr.'s blood is in Jr. and his sister not teresa. william Willingham Pelham Georgia.
