Lou Dobbs Weighing Run for President in 2012?

Is Lou Dobbs a Serious Presidental Contender?

Will former CNN television personality Lou Dobbs be running for president in 2012? That is the question that is on everyone's lips after Mr Dobbs interview on Washington radio where he stated that he would actually consider running for president in the 2012 election. He also reasserted that statement on another radio interview with 2008 GOP presidential contender Fred Thompson.

Dobbs' spokesman Robert Dillenschneider told the Washington Post this morning that Mr Dobbs has "30 different opportunities" to pursue in the future. However, it is well known that Lou Dobbs has a strong base of supporters among the general public and the political arena if he does take the step towards running for the presidency. Currently a wide range of websites exist that promote Mr Dobbs political aspirations such as Lou Dobbs 4 President and Lou Dobbs For President. Both sites appear to project strongly that we will be seeing Mr Dobbs as a serious contender for the 2012 presidential campaign.

I have to seriously wonder if Lou Dobbs could ever prove to be a strong contender as an Independent. He has no real middle class appeal to the masses unlike Sarah Palin who does hold appeal for Republicans across America. He also appears to come off far too self righteous and stuck in his belief system to bend in order to appeal to the masses like a true contender in the presidential campaign needs to do.

Perhaps he could split a few of the right wingers away from the GOP but not enough to truly matter or be a threat to either the Democrats or the Republicans.

I suppose Mr Dobbs can stand as a third party contender but I do not see him holding much weight. The 2012 elections will more then likely focus on a strong Republican contender who will be needed to seriously rise to the top in 2012 The presidential race is going to focus on a Republican and Democrat battle that is going to be overpowering and any independent contenders votes will not be a threat to either party or a serious obstacle but they never have been in history.
