Super Six Phase 2:Preview
Although we've just finished the first phase of the Super Six tournament many boxing fans just can't wait for the next set of fights to happen. The first round was enthralling, with a single KO, a single upset and 2 European "World Champions" left looking rather pedestrian. So lets quickly run through the results of the first round fights before a quick preview of the second round.
On the opening night of the tournament we had two fights the opener featured to former middleweight champions who had moved up to 168lbs (the Super Middleweight limit). Jermain Taylor had fought a few times there, though had lost last time out via late TKO to Carl Froch in a WBC title fight. Abraham was stepping up due to struggling to make the weight and the fact the only major at middleweight had eluded him (a fight with Kelly Pavlik) and so he took part to try and facing a better challenge.
The fight started with Taylor getting off to a great start and winning the opening few rounds though by the half way point Abraham was starting to impose himself more and more. As the fight went on you could see it slipping from Taylor and as they came to the final round Abraham was in charge. What people didn't expect, despite the fact Abraham is a known power puncher, was the beautiful shot that he landed that ended the fight with only seconds left to earn 3 points.
The second fight was also fought on the same night and pitted two unbeaten fighters together with the WBC champion Carl Froch facing American Andrew Dirrell. Froch had been in with the better quality of opponents than Dirrell had though the American was a relative unknown quantity.
