Adam Lambert AMA Video: Uncut, Uncensored, Unabashed

The Adam Lambert AMA Controversy is Not Ready to Go Away

Needless to say, the Adam Lambert AMA performance video has gone viral. Crazy viral. Insanely viral. And, again, needless to say, Adam Lambert's sexually charged AMA performance - which featured, among other lewd things, crotch-grabbing, simulated oral sex, and Adam kissing a male keyboard player - will go done in history as one of the most scandolous live TV performances ever.

Not surprisingly, there has been a fair amount of fallout on account of Adam Lambert's wildly provocative performance during the AMAs Sunday night. Many of his fans, for instance, are disgusted with him for engaging in such outrageously lewd behavior and have abandoned him forever. And ABC canceled his scheduled appearance today on "Good Morning America."

"Given his controversial American Music Awards performance, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning," said ABC in a statement.

All along, my beef with Adam has not been a sense of outrage over his racy performance of "For Your Entertainment," the single from his major label debut album of the same name. I was not in the least bit offended and, quite frankly, I found the performance to be somewhat amusing. The problem for me (and other fans, if I may be so bold to say) is that Adam did not sing well. He traded in what could have been an excellent vocal performance (of a middling song, mind you) for, well, a simulated b---- job.

Adam argues that he is the victim of a double standard; that women performers have been engaging in risqué behavior on stage for decades and that, because he is openly gay, he is being discriminated against for doing the very same thing.

There may be some truth to this, but the bottom line here is that Adam Lambert does not need to depend on such extreme erotic posturing to make a splash. His magnificent singing voice can do the job all on its own. Sometimes, less is more, and in my opinion, Adam should have toned down his performance a bit and concentrated more on singing.

On "The Early Show," Adam admitted as much when asked if he would have done anything differently: "I'd sing a little bit better... it wasn't my best vocal performance."
