Avril Lavigne's New Release The Best Damn Thing Leaves Us Wondering Just What is the Best Damn Thing

Avril returns to the pop music scene with a fiesty album, blonde hair, and what she calls "The Best Damn Thing" is just short of that description. Following up from her 2004 release "Under My Skin," "The Best Damn Thing" combines rock songs and ballads. But why the title? This record leaves me wondering the same thing...

The third LP of this canadian-born singer opens with "Girlfriend," a song about her not liking a guy's girlfriend and she wants him instead. What is annoying about this song is that it mimics Tony Basil's everypopular "Hey Mickey." Seems producer Dr Luke can't come up with something original. She then goes on to go up her own ass singing "I Can Do Better" like she's a goddess, making herself look great and getting rid of this dumpy guy. How... charming. "I hate you now/ So go away from me/ You're gone, so long/ I can do better, I can do better/ Hey, hey you/ I found myself again/ That's why you're gone/ I can do better, I can do better."

"Runaway" actually isn't too bad of a composition. The lyrics are fun and adventerous as well: "I just wanna scream and lose control/ Throw my hands up and let it go/ Forget about everything and run away, yeah/ I just wanna fall and lose myself/ Laughing so hard it hurts like hell/ Forget about everything and run away." "The Best Damn Thing" is a typical Avril song. However, it sounds just like everything else she's done. She sings about how a guy is supposed to get the door for her and get the tab because whens she pulls her money out it just looks bad. Please. Get over yourself. These days everything is a compromise. Surely she probably makes more money screeching on her albums than he does working his 9-5 job.
