Recovering from Being an Unemployed Loser

Unemployment is not a piece of cake. You may be happy to no longer have your previous position but on the other hand, you may feel like an unemployed loser with no friends because you have no one to talk to during the afternoon hours. There are always stresses when working to find a new
position, whether it's paying the bills, the need for health insurance or the actual job hunting. If you are single and living on your own, the being alone can just get to you.

The best thing that may come out of all this is that you learn from previous mistakes at previous positions and you work to focus your job hunt towards the things necessary at the company you work for, to work better for you. Contacting Executive Recruiters and other placement agencies can also help during this process to give you more opportunities. Of all things, patience is most necessary if you are going to find the position and company right for you.

Make sure while you are job hunting to get out and make some trips whether it's through town or for a walk if you are likely to lock yourself up in your home job hunting. Despite the fact that you have to focus on finding a position, all your waking hours can't be spent doing this. Maybe you've been meaning to start that exercise routine or haven't been able to catch up in the garden. This is the time to start. Create a schedule for yourself while looking for that position.

If you need health insurance and can't afford Cobra, apply for SAGA to see if you meet the qualifications. Of course, don't forget to contact the Department of Labor. The hardest thing is to be left with no health insurance and have health problems. You may also call up your local social services to see if you might qualify for any assistance.

In this age of the internet, it may be possible to do some freelancing in your field of work to make some extra money and gain some experience, or perhaps one of your hobbies is a money maker.

If you decide to get a part time job remember that you will lose approximately two-thirds of the check you receive from the Department of Labor. So choose your position wisely.

I found that the best way to find an interview is not to sit at a computer with the rest of the unemployed world. You have to canvass. Dress up in a proffessional manner and go to every business you want to work at whether you saw an ad or not. 10 resumes a day will eventually work! I was out for 6 months. Then I canvassed for two weeks and got lucky and got a lead from a former employer .(not the one who layed me off) about a position and I am going to try it and thank god for that. I had no luck online at all... in fact 2 scammers tried to have me buy something to sell. I have never felt so out of touch in my entire life.. I never have been unemployed before and I am 45 so it doesnt get easier when you get older!! Remember It can happen to anyone (my brother was just layed off too)

There is no recovery from unemployedloseritis. You just sink into the morass and disappear forever into the starry night.

Very good advice, my husband will soon be applying many of the things you suggest here, as his job will be ending soon.
