The sports world is full of people who are always quick to give their opinion on a certain topic. Many sports experts don't hold back with their opinions either. I don't have a problem with that at all, I like to tell it how I feel too. But before someone speaks on a certain topic they should at least know the facts. When you speak without all the facts you just end up humiliating yourself, the newspaper, magazine or network you work for, and your entire sport as a whole. Right now the people who are making fools of themselves the most are boxing experts.

Leading up to the Oscar de la Hoya and Floyd Merryweather Jr. fight there was a lot of talk about how boxing is dying and MMA is taking over. Every boxing expert in the world came out of the woodworks to talk about the big boxing match and in the process took their shots at MMA. Of course, most of them had no idea at all what they were talking about. Most of them have probably never even seen an MMA match.

A perfect example came one day while I was watching the ESPN show Rome is Burning. Jim Rome was asking one of the many boxing experts what he thought of MMA and he said, "I don't buy into all those headlocks and suplexes." Thanks for the opinion; I don't buy into you knowing anything at all about MMA. I've seen probably 300 or 400 MMA matches by now and I've never seen a single headlock or suplex. So I'm not sure why somebody would have to buy into those things to enjoy MMA.

Of course this boxing expert was actually talking about pro wrestling, the WWE, which is not the same thing as MMA. If you think MMA is about suplexing people, hitting people with chairs and jumping off the top rope then you don't know anything about MMA. It seems the boxing experts have Dana White and Randy Couture confused with Vince McMahon and Hulk Hogan.
