MMA Vs Boxing

It seemed for a while that boxing had dropped off the face of the earth and was replaced by MMA. Then suddenly Oscar de la Hoya and Floyd Merryweather Jr. arrived to try and "save their sport". Who knows what this match will lead to for the boxing world, but I know one thing for sure, MMA will continue to do better than boxing.

I realize that a large percentage of the boxing versus MMA debate is a generation thing. My generation is pro MMA while the generation before me is pro boxing. The next generation is going to be pro MMA also and the one after that and the one after that, because MMA is better.

Let me explain to you why the MMA is better than boxing. We'll start with the negatives of the two sports because they are pretty easy. The negatives for the two sports are easy because boxing and MMA both have all the same negatives.

A lot of the anti-MMA crowd will say it's too barbaric. Of course this is mainly due to ignorance of the rules. MMA has rules just like boxing. There is no biting, poking, low blows and any of that sort. MMA is a sport, not pro wrestling. You can't argue that MMA is too barbaric when boxers punch each other in the face! Or is it ok to punch someone in the face as long as you don't also twist their ankle and try and make them submit? If someone thinks the MMA is too barbaric then they can't be fans of boxing either, because it is also barbaric.

Another negative of MMA is their promos. Before their matches the MMA fighters will tell their opinions of the match and their opponent. People who are anti-MMA liken these promos to pro wrestling in order to demean MMA. Seriously though, that's a weak argument. Boxers do the exact same thing. Boxers talk smack with each other, boxers at weigh-ins do the lame chest bumping to try and prove they are "a man". Heck, Muhammed Ali used to cut promos that would make Hulk Hogan jealous. So you can't tell me that the MMA promos are silly when boxers are just as ridiculous.
