Shaquille O'Neil has paid for Shaniya Davis's funeral. The 5 year old North Carolina girl whose rape and murder has saddened the nation, was laid to rest last Sunday. Associated Press has just released a report that the Basketball star, Shaquille O'Neil has paid for the funeral.

Shaquille O'Neil, or Shaq as fans refer to him, is the famous Cleveland Cavaliers player who was touched by the story of Shaniya Davis's horrendous and unthinkable death.

The story about the funeral payment being made by Shaquille O'Neal for Shaniya Davis's funeral was released by The Fayetteville Observer in North Carolina on Thanksgiving Day.

According to the news site, Now Public, "Shaq said in a statement that "he was so touched by the sad story that he decided to pay for the Shaniya Davis funeral ". Shaq O'Neil also said, "What happened to, her was tragic. I wanted her to have a funeral that would be as beautiful as she was".

Shaq O'Neil did not disclose the amount that he donated for the funeral, the average funeral cost at the funeral home where Shaniya's funeral was held is about $4,500.

Shaniya Davis' father Bradley Lockhart said that the money is in a trust fund and after funeral costs have been subtracted, the rest of the money will go to charity.

Shaniya Davis's body was discovered on a rural access road by searchers on November 10, 2009. A few days earlier her mother, Antionette Davis, reported her missing, but the allegations are that she gave her daughter over Mario Mc Neill, to be used as a child prostitute.

McNeill was later reported seen with Shaniya in a hotel about 50 miles away from Shaniya's home. Video from the hotels security camera confirmed that for police, who had arrived at the hotel after McNeill had already left with little Shaniya.

McNeil is charged in Shaniya Davis's murder and Antionette Davis is being held on charges of human trafficking for her act in this horrific story.
