Wonderland Greyhound Park's Snow Blower's Streak Continues at the 19th Night of Stars

Greyhound racing fans watching and wagering on the fourth race of the nineteenth Night of Stars, held at Wonderland Greyhound Park in Revere, Massachusetts, were wondering before the race who, if anyone, could beat Snow Blower. The answer, it turned out, is nobody for now, as the huge 83 pound black male, running out of the Ray Thurber Kennel and ably trained by Steve Zack, made fast work of a field of greyhounds assembled for the sole purpose of trying to end his seventeen race winning streak. That number now stands at eighteen, as Snow Blower plowed to the front early and was never tested, winning his Night of Stars debut in 30.38 seconds, the fastest time of the night at the old Bay State oval.

The Night of Stars is a twice-yearly event that assembles greyhound standouts from across the nation to compete, with some of the proceeds from each race going to Greyhounds as Pets of America, an adoption agency that helps retired racers find good homes. Wonderland, which just opened its seasonal meet in late April, hosted race number four on that program, which is simulcast into dog tracks and race books around the United States. Snow Blower, who had had just shipped in from Sarasota, a Florida track that he turned into his own personal playground, had won his first two races up north, but by close enough margins that there was some doubt creeping in as to whether he could handle this field.
