Making people laugh is a great talent, but it doesn't come as naturally for some as it does for others. Even the best comedians bomb with some of their jokes every now and then, which is why if you want to be funny on any level, you have to work at it. Whether you think you're the next Chris Rock or the next Carrot Top, if you ever wanted to try to learn how to be funnier, here are some tips to help you on your journey.

Tip 1: Watch/Listen to comedians and funny actors

It's true that you learn a lot by doing, but you can also learn a lot about comedy by simply watching and listening others. If there's a place where local comedians do stand-up, go see how funny they are. If you have comedy central, watch the tv shows, stand-up specials, and anything else they have on. The point of doing all this isn't to just steal other people's material and use it as your own, but rather to study other people's joke deliveries, and subject matters. You might be inspired and end up being able to think of funny things non-stop, or you might not. It all depends on how well you can relate to and how funny you see the comics.

Tip 2: Join an improv club

At first, improv can be pretty tough and intimidating, but taking a class on it or joining an improv club could really help you overcome those fears and as a result be able to think on your feet easier, and be funnier in different kinds of situations. Don't worry if you're not really funny your first few times doing it, the experience of it is really all that matters.

Tip 3: Perform in front of others

You don't have to do stand-up at your local comedy club, but you should try and be funny as often as possible. Crack jokes with your family, friends, dog, neighbor, and anyone else who will listen to you. Again, it's all about gaining experience and learning what you say is funny and what isn't. After a while, either the people around you will love you because of your sense of humor, or you'll be alone because you're really not funny, in which case you should probably stop telling jokes altogether.
