Tiger Woods Accident Rumors Barely Dented by Woods Statement

Tiger Woods accident rumors have grown like weeds all weekend. Mainly, Tiger Woods accident rumors spread because Woods himself had no comment. All he had to release yesterday was a statement denying the rumors, since he decided not to talk to police after all. Woods is technically doing nothing wrong with this approach, but it is hardly making the accident rumors go away. In fact, the debate has now moved on towards whether Woods is right or foolish to stay quiet.

The Tiger Woods accident rumors have been so crazy, there would have been too much to answer for if he did comment. With gossip columns furthering the worst rumors - like Woods' alleged affair and a possible fight with his wife before the accident - it has been the worst PR week in his career.

By the end of the weekend, Woods faced extra criticism for not fighting back and clearing the air. In contrast, alleged mistress Rachel Uchitel has thoroughly denied the rumors about her, and may be planning to sue the National Enquirer for defamation. But all Woods may have to say about the accident rumors was released in a statement yesterday.

On his website, Woods denied the accident rumors and called his wife "courageous" for getting him out of the car - though some still question that official version. He had no comment about Uchitel or those set of rumors, which may still seem suspicious. But this approach continues to be divisive, as Woods is either bravely holding on to his privacy, or making it easier for followers to believe the worst.

Yahoo Sports' Dan Wetzel defended Woods' right to privacy, while the Chicago Tribune's George Diaz said that "prolonged silence will do no good." Diaz may be right, but given Woods' stance over the weekend, he seems unlikely to chance his tactics. Even if he does, that may be considered giving in to the gossip mongers.
