College costs are rising throughout the world. As a Vermont resident and parent of a teenager, the cost of college in Vermont is becoming rather startling. Recent tuition rates have skyrocketed leaving many parents wondering how they will foot the bill for a two or four-year college program.

Vermont has been praised as being one of the safest United States. Many college students are looking at Vermont as a potential college destination. Before plans are finalized, it is worthwhile to look at the costs involved at the state's colleges. Current rates are as of Spring 2007. Many colleges are planning to raise rates this summer.

Bennington College:

Located in Southern Vermont, Bennington College costs approximately $35,000 a year. Room and board will cost an additional $9,300. A health service charge of $670 is mandatory for all students, as is an activities fee of $280.

Burlington College:

This small college offers Associates of Arts degrees. Located in downtown Burlington, students will find that housing is often cramped because only a handful of rooms are available. Tuition rates are $18,200 per year with additional fees for housing, enrollment, and textbooks.

Castleton State College:

Castleton State is in the lower-range when it comes to Vermont college tuition rates. Here all new students must pay a registration fee of $195 and an activity fee of $188, this is for both in-state and out-of-state students. The total yearly tuition for an in-state student is $14,659 per year and it is $22,843 for an out-of-state student. This includes room and board, but does not cover text books or insurance fees.
