If you are looking for an exciting, unconventional industry in which to pursue a career, or simply a part-time job in order to work your way through college or graduate school, you might want to consider bartending school. Here are eight reasons to go to bartending school.

Reason One. Bartending school is cheaper than law school. Tuition at bartending school ranges, depending on the type of school, the number of hours, and the area in which the bartending school is located. But it is typically an investment of under a thousand dollars. I received my degree in Mixology approximately five years before I received my Juris Doctorate, and I must say, I think I'm a bit more proud of the former.

Reason Two. Bartending school, and indeed the bartending profession, is a great way to meet new people. Especially members of the opposite sex. It is said that someone's attractiveness increases by at least twenty-five percent when they are standing behind a bar.

Reason Three. The money you make bartending can be really good. Bartending is a service industry, and most bartenders rely heavily on tips. In the right location, bartenders can make very good money. And, of course, it's all cash.

Reason Four. Have you seen the movie Cocktail? That could be you. Flipping bottles, standing on the bar reading poetry, downing shots. The bartending school I attended even offered some instruction on Olympic bartending and pointed me in the direction of some competitions.

Reason Five. Most bartending schools offer job-finding assistance. Bartending can be quite competitive, especially in some markets. But a good bartending school will offer you assistance in finding your first job.

Reason Six. If you are not a morning person (I'm certainly not), bartending might just be your ticket. Likewise, if you take classes during the day, bartending might just be the perfect part-time job. Bartending offers flexible hours, and you could work shifts from the early evening into the wee hours of the morning.

Reason Seven. Bartending will allow you to travel. Bartenders are needed everywhere. Unlike in some professions, you will not be tied down to one area.

If I had a degree in bartending, I might be more proud of it than my juris doctor as well :P

I just want to learn how to make one of those screaming orgasms. I mean the drink. Oh no, McAfee will have to work overtime protecting your files now - sorry.

What a fun article! You made me think of the book and movie The Rainmaker. Matt Damon actually worked in a bar to get the part down perfectly for the movie.

I actually thought about doing this before I went to college. While traveling through Europe I met so many bartenders who were doing it for reason 7...not a bad way to go.
