Cynthia Lord was a mother of 4 children, three teenage sons, and a daughter until she decided to kill her three oldest sons, Christopher 19, who was playing videos games at the time, Michael 18, who had been sleeping, and 16 year-old Joseph who was coming home from school, with a single gunshot to each of their heads in March of 2004. The reason in her mind for killing her own children was that she had feared they had all become evil clones or robots. Luckily her 15 year-old daughter had not been home when the shootings went on, or Lord said she would have killed her as well. Once police had arrested Cynthia Lord, she had told them that she had planned to kill her sons since October of 2003 when she purchased a hand gun. It just took some time for her to settle on her decision of taking the young lives of those she had created. A girlfriend of 18 year-old Michael, Kacie Carlson, told police that she had believed by the actions she had seen, Cynthia was just trying to keep the boys from moving out of the house. She also added that "I agree that she's ill and that she does need help, but at the same time it's hard because I feel like she should really be in jail"
Cynthia Lord 45, who is convicted of three counts of first-degree murder is looking at facing as much as 99 years in a mental institution, or half in jail and the other in an institute, sat inside the court room, her hair looking all raggedy and dirty, just sat there, with no expression at all while Alaska Court Judge Philip Volland read the verdict. In the mean time until Cynthia is sentenced on August 24, 2007, she will be confined to the Hiland Mountain Correctional Center, which is Alaska's female prison.
Those who knew Cynthia are shocked and amazed that she would have done something so drastic to her boys. Other expected something different, but surely not death. A cousin to the three young boys, Sarah Raffuse , and the only family member that came to court Monday stated that "It's the best thing we could've hoped for", regarding the verdict for Cynthia Lord.
