From the time that children enter elementary school until the time in which they graduate from high school, students are taught that America is the most free and fair country in the world. What students never hear or see, however, is the government fighting to keep out immigrants that are just as deserving of freedom and fairness as American citizens. Students hear all about how illegal immigrants hurt America, such as producing overpopulation and contributing to loss of job security, but they never hear about how immigrants contribute. Students are never exposed to the millions of working illegal immigrants that keep the United States' economy running. If students, or even other Americans, were exposed to the immigrants' help of the United States, many people would want them to become citizens. Illegal immigrants should become United States citizens because they help the American economy and children immigrants deserve a brighter future.

Immigrants have helped American economy numerous times in the past. For example, during several wars in the past, immigrants have fought in the United States armed forces. Because the immigrants fought in place of some of the Americans, the Americans could stay home and continue to work and make a productive economy. Now, immigrants have come over from many countries, including Middle Eastern, with an exceptional knowledge about computer programming. Once in the United States, the immigrants have taken computer-related jobs in which they have run computers, or even produced new ways to use computer programming in everyday life. Some of these immigrants may not be illegal immigrants, but some most likely are illegal immigrants. If the United States grants amnesty to illegal immigrants, the possibilities for new technology and improved workforce and economy are virtually endless.

I would say first of all that it is true that alot of illiegal immigrants contribute. I do agree that to them we should give them a chance. However I also understand that some illegals are bad like selling drugs and shooting people. I say if we are going to take anyone out is them not the ones who are going to school and working hard for their lives in this country. Also if someone is barely entering here then obviously they should be given a chance. I say first live here for 5 or more years and learn english then you can get legal papers.

we do not take the jobs of actual citizens is just that american citizens dont want to do any type of job im not saying that they are lazy is just that we work harder than them.

Unlike the article written by Jessica N. Gorgon, I believe that the United States government should not give US citizenship to illegal immigrants. When they come over to America illegally, they are breaking the law. Also, when illegal immigrants come here, they take the jobs of actual citizens. For these two reasons, illegal immigrants should not become citizens of the United States. Illegal is a term used when someone is breaking the law. To grant amnesty to these immigrants would be like letting any criminal off the hook with no strings attached. Most Americans would agree that this is not a good idea. They would say that we should punish those who broke the law, so why is there a huge controversy over illegal immigrants. They broke the law, so therefore they should be punished. In Jessica N. Gordon's article, she says that illegal immigrants help the economy. In reality, they are just taking the jobs of US citizens that deserve them. Employers give these jobs away because the immi

The writer failed to demonstrate how illegal immigrants contribute to the economy. The rest of the argument simply appeals to emotion. The illegal immigrants referred to here are those immediately south of the border, where a seventh grade education is the norm; half their children drop out of high school here in the US. Further, their numbers are overrepresented on welfare and in prison, and underrepresented in the military (where they would gain automatic citizenship) and college. They are not the sort we want as citizens. We need more legal immigrants from Asia, India, and Europe, who indeed demonstrate their appreciation of freedom and opportunity by succeeding as good Americans.

What about the legal American children? They deserve the American dream of education and prosperity. How are they to attain this, if their schools are performing low because illegal immigrants are holding classes behind. No child left behind is a good concept but completely unattainable. Legal American children are the real victims here.

They come here to gain freedom and success that they don't have elsewhere. If they get a better chance at the "American freedom", perhaps less would come here illegally. Of course, a better attack on illegal immigrants would be needed.

Well written article, however, having "a better chance at becoming U.S. citizens" is no motivation for illegal immigrants who just cross the border. Why should they become citizens? They get assistance for free in the form of medical, education for their children, more and more concessions to putting things in their language, and clearly are not held by our laws... if they became citizens, they'd have to pay for all that.

While I do not agree with all you say, the article is well written.

I don't want them to have automatic citizenship, just a better chance at becoming U.S. citizens. I agree with you in your comments in this way: some people always mess things up for everyone by abusing the system.

continued: people that knowingly break one law, tend to break other laws. One law broken every year was no fireworks ordinance in Long Beach. The police could not arrest all those shooting them off at the beach, so just had fire trucks ready. Who cleans up the mess? Tax paid employees. Some of the debris gets washed into the ocean before it can be removed from the beach. There is also the gangs that cross the borders and charge other gang members "taxes" and kills to gain control of the streets. Give them a thumbs up? One man shot two police officers after a routine traffic stop (making an illegal turn). He had been deported 4 times. There are millions who want to relocate to the US legally and the illegal ones are jumping in line ahead of them.

How does it help the economy when one that does not speak Spanish is not eligble for a job at even a McDonalds? I am the daughter of immigrants so have always been pro-immigration. The legal kind. The "La Raza's" want to force the US to give back the land we "stole" from them. In California the illegals tear down USA flags and replace them with Mexican ones on government property. People that live in the 5 states the La Raza's want, are against giving automatic citizenship to people who break the law to enter the country, because they do not want to become citizens of the new La Raza country. When the illegals walk out of work at the ports of LA, the shipyards were shut down. Many born citizens would love one of those high paying port jobs. California has to ship in water from out of state, due to the numbers of illegals living on the land. They also get free health care and with no SSI # that means they are not contributing the tax dollars that pay for it. Help or hinder? Depends on w
