Though the weather may not yet be conducive for outdoor water fun, there's no need to keep your bathing suit in hiding until May. Just head north to Mason, Ohio, where it's always a balmy 84 degrees at the The Great Wolf Lodge.Located adjacent to Paramount's Kings Island, the newly opened (December 2006) Great Wolf Lodge is a full-service, year-round family destination resort. The "northwoods"-themed resort features a 79,000 square-foot indoor water park, 401 all-suite guest rooms, two kid-friendly restaurants, a spa, a children's craft and activity room, an arcade, fitness room, gift shop and so much more!
When my daughter and I arrived at The Great Wolf Lodge, it was a cold, dreary January afternoon. The enormous, log-sided resort radiated warmth through my snow-peppered windshield. I just knew there was a welcoming fireplace inside - and I wasn't disappointed!
The three-story atrium is a sight to behold. In fine hunting lodge fashion, the massive fireplace I was hoping for was to my left and doubles as a stage for the lodge's mascots, Wiley the Wolf and Biko, who make appearances every night for story time. Straight ahead, a floor-to-ceiling animated clock offers a "Rhythm of Nature" show, twice nightly.
Our suite was the next pleasant surprise. With 12 different suite configurations to choose from, our guest room was the Family Fireplace Suite - an oversized room with two queen beds, a semi-private living area with fireplace and balcony, two TVs, and a wet bar with a refrigerator and microwave.
Although the majority of the 401 guest rooms are Family Suites or Family Fireplace Suites, you can choose from three kid-themed suites: KidCabin Suite; KidKamp Suite; or WolfDen Suite. But, the suites aren't all just for kids. You can also choose a whirlpool fireplace suite or a king business suite.
