From the not-so-surprising news category: Ricky Williams has tested positive for marijuana. Again. Um, remind me to head to the bookie to collect my winnings on this one.

According to ESPN.com, Williams has failed yet another drug test, and his return to the NFL will be delayed even further. He was set to make his comeback to the Miami Dolphins this season.

Williams, an NFL rushing champion, has appeared in just 12 games since the start of the 2003 season.

Williams recently held a press conference in light of this latest test result in which he stated that he was an "honest, God-fearing man who is intensely dedicated to being the best person I can be on and off the football field."

...

Let's say for a moment that I forget the four previous times in which Ricky violated the NFL's policy on substance abuse. And, for the sake of argument, let's just forget about the 2004 season in which he abandoned his team just before the start of Week 1. Oh, and one more thing: I guess I'll have to forget the fact that the NFL ordered Ricky Williams to be fully evaluated by a psychiatrist before they would consider reinstating him. Even IF I could forget those things, he still leaves quite the laundry list.

As an NFL GM, I would have to be alarmed at one or more of the following "red flags" as far as Ricky Williams goes.
  1. He has said several times publicly he has no desire to play the game of football.

Yes, it is true that Ricky spent the 2006 season in the CFL, but I still question his desire given the fact that he is so immersed in things like Yoga and all sorts of eastern religions. How much desire does someone who continually tests positive for marijuana really have? We're not talking about steroids here. No, this is straight Ganja. And, as many people know, Ganja doesn't make you bigger, faster, or stronger; it makes you forget about all your troubles and whisk away to fairy land in search of snack food.
  1. He owes the Dolphins 8.6 million dollars for the 2004 debacle.

Did You Know?
