Anybody who has done any banking, especially after the Check 21 legislation went through, probably have experienced bank fees that are a tad excessive. Bounced check fees (Key Bank, which so far is my bank charges $38) and Automated Teller Machines ($4 and Key only has ATM machines in their branch offices) net banks billions of dollars every year by charging these fees and delibertly target those least likely to afford it or those who consistently have a low balance. By the end of 2006, banks were expected to yield a record $53.1 billion in these fees alone.

According to a Nov. 19, 2006 article in USA Today, eight of the nation's 10 banks, Citigroup, Bank of America, Chase, Wachovia, Wells Fargo, HSBC, U.S. Bank and Key Bank (although not named) pay checks that arrive on the same day from the largest to smallest dollar amount and will do the same for electronic transactions.

Yikes, that is a bit excessive. With me, I was doing great in the overdraft dept in my banking and hadn't been overdrawn in nearly a year until last month. On my bank statement in the overdraft notice section, they listed a $5 check as being overdrawn by $4.27. Yet according to my bank statement, which I check every day, that $5 had cleared and I had a balance of something like $28. The next item above the overdraft was an overdraft fee of $38. No indication on the statement itself as to where I was overdrawn. I ended up paying $190 in fees for a $4.27 overdraft as they added debit charges, which also had already been deducted from my balance, again with no indication on the statement itself as to why I was overdrawn. I also have my pay check autmatically deposited and they charged me two overdraft fee before crediting my deposit. According to the overdraft notices I recieved, they state they don't do that. But anytime I've been overdrawn it is due to the fact that they deduct transact

I was bounce from paypal to negative $260 dollars. I deposited a thousand dollar check, and had it held for 5 days. I was subsequently bounced on my account, so many times, that I was still negative $76 dollars after my deposit. The branch manager refused to help me. In the past month I have had almost $1000 in bounce fees. All a result from a $25 transaction
