Jacksonville, Florida; Night of Stars Shocker at Orange Park Kennel Club

Kay V Tatoo Tony has never won a stakes race in his Jacksonville Racing Circuit career, but it's not for the lack of trying. At the 19th Night of Stars on May 12th, Tony was once again in position to finally score a win in a big race, only to see it slip fthrough his paws in the last few yards of the contest. The Orange Park Kennel Club Night of Stars race was the tenth on the nationally simulcast program, made up of sixteen races from sixteen different venues featuring the top dogs at those facilities, with some of the proceeds going to greyhound adoption. By the time this one was in the books, one of the biggest upsets of the evening had occurred, with not one, but two long shots running first and second.

Despite the fact that Kay V Tatoo Tony was the 2006 Orange Park track wins leader with 35 wins, and an All-American to boot, he was not the betting choice in this one. That honor belonged to nineteen race winner FTH Jive Talker, owner of the fastest time of anyone in the race and showing four easy wins in his six most recent efforts. Stake Your Claim, another nineteen race winner, was completely overlooked in the two hole, as the 72 pound brindle male out of Craigie Whistler and Pointer was sent out of the box at 10-1 odds. PTL Junebug in the three hole received similar treatment from the greyhound racing patrons across the land, bet down only to 9-1 while showing five wins in a row, a streak that just ended her last time out. Bart's Lap Dog and Magic Remi were in the four and five respectively, both more than capable of springing a surprise on the field. Ten race winner Penrose Brianna was in the six, Tony in the seven, and Pat C Red Note, victorious in twenty-one of his thirty-nine Orange Park Kennel Club escapades in 2007 held court in the far outside eight hole.
