Liberty University is a one of a kind environment when it comes to Christian education. It is the largest private University in the state of Virginia, and is among the largest Christian schools in the nation. It is a great place to attend if you're seeking a predominantly conservative environment in which to learn. Just like any other institution, it has its warts, and it is certainly not for everyone. I will attempt to give the rundown on what I believe to be the main places of interest for potential college freshmen and transfers. Hopefully, after reading, you will be able to make an educated decision as to whether or not to attend Liberty University.

Cost

Seeing as this is a private school, you can expect the rates to be somewhat higher than other schools in the state. However, when compared to other private, Christian schools, it is actually quite affordable. Also, many students receive scholarships that increase with each year of attendance. Sure, the initial figure of $20,000+ may look high, but it actually comes down quite a bit.

Courses

Liberty University offers TONS of majors, with more in the works. The University is always expanding, so if they don't offer what you want, just give them a semester and it's probably coming. The entry-level courses are not overwhelming, but are challenging enough to keep even the most avid student interested. Also, as an incentive, should you fail a class at Liberty, you are given the opportunity to have the grade replaced should you retake it at LU. Most colleges only average the two together, so it really works in your favor.

College Sports

Alright, so the big teams (Football, Basketball, Baseball) aren't exactly stellar, but they are all Division 1 in the Big South Conference. Along with the schools growth, the teams have really taken off over the past few years, and are looking to be more impressive in 2007. If you're more into intramural, they have basketball, softball, flag football, and others. But, if you look hard enough, you're sure to find at least a few 11-on-11 tackle football games going on during the weekends.
