I'm not 100 percent sure how it happened but when I was 16 I injured my left ankle and, over time, that injury led to me developing arthritis that still plagues me today. Most of the time, I'm able to live with it. But, on nights like last night, when it's cool and damp, the pain can become so unbearable; I can't sleep and wind up pacing the house all night.

After 15 years of taking pretty much every over-the-counter pain killer on the market with little to no success, I didn't think much of the sample packet of Advil PM I had gotten in the mail. However, I needed to get up early for work this morning and knew I needed to try something to help me sleep or I would be calling in sick.

I am absolutely impressed with what the Advil did.

It took roughly 45 minutes for the two pills to kick in, which makes me wonder just how fast they would have worked if they hadn't gotten crushed into little pieces while traveling in the mail. First, the sharp pain in my ankle started to fade a little bit (it never goes away completely; again something I've learned to live with). And, rather than feeling drowsy, which was something I expected the pills to do, I instead just felt a little more relaxed. I was able to do my nightly routine of checking the doors, brushing my teeth, etc without any difficulty and, by the time I was ready to go to bed, was relaxed enough where I fell asleep easily. By that time, I could hardly feel any pain in my ankle; something that even some of the stronger pain killers out there, including some prescription ones, have not been able to do for me.

I won't say it was the most sound sleep I've ever had but it was still sound enough to make me feel refreshed this morning and, despite not getting a full eight hours of sleep, I had no problem getting out of bed to go to work; something I was a bit concerned about and a big reason I usually won't try night-time sleep aids.

In fact, my only regret about taking the Advil PM was the fact I only had the two pills. If I need it again, I'm going to have to go to the store to buy it first. And, after the success I had with those broken pills, that is something I'm not going to hesitate to do.
