I am the type of person who loves to plan ahead. Despite my best efforts, I can never plan completely for an emergency. This week, my husband had an accident at home that caused himself to cut his hand. The laceration appeared to need medical attention. We suspected it would need stitches.

Typically we have traveled to Dayton, Ohio to Good Samaritan Hospital for any emergency that would come up for the adults in the family. Since my husband was driving himself to the emergency room, he felt more comfortable traveling to Greenville, Ohio to Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Upon arrival, the overall impression was good. We were able to park close to the emergency room at Wayne Memorial Hospital. The parking lot was well lit and the neighborhood seemed safe. Thinking of my last visit to Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, I recall that the neighborhood made me slightly uncomfortable.

We entered the hospital where we were greeted by a receptionist who promptly took my husband's health information. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Her personable attitude helped to calm our nerves. She was very courteous of privacy. She offered her notepad and pen for my husband to write down his social security number instead of announcing it to a roomful of patients. My husband asked for her professional medical advice about his cut. She quickly and politely explained she was not allowed to give her opinion on the matter, but directed us to the person who could help us. I was pleased to see that she knew her job and its limitations. Her actions were more than polite and professional.

The receptionist at Good Samaritan Hospital's ER was also professional and courteous. Her attitude was not as warm and friendly, but that may be due to the timing of our visit. We happened to showed up at the end of the shift for the receptionist at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Takeaways
  • Expect to wait.
  • The doctors and nurses really care at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
  • The patients were in control of their health care.

A hospital review is a great idea. You put so much trust in them and so much responsibility in their hands, yet often have little information or time to get information when making the choice of which hospital to use.
