Hunger Awareness Day Rally

Project Open Hand will host a rally for Hunger Awareness Day June 5th at Union Square in San Francisco, CA.

Volunteers are needed, according to the organization. To volunteer, contact Sean Rosas at 415-447-2287.

"Many San Franciscans are unaware that as many as 150,000 people in every San Francisco neighborhood live with the threat of hunger," the agency's literature states.

In April, Project Open Hand celebrated the opening of their new grocery center in downtown Oakland.

The group will have their Annual Dessert First fundraiser June 10th at West San Francisco.

This April marked the first anniversary of The Partnership to End Childhood Hunger in the Nation's Capital, a joint effort of the group, Share Our Strength ®, D.C. Hunger Solutions, and the Food Research and Action Center.

The Partnership commemorated the anniversary by preparing its First-Year Progress Report.

Share Our Strength has announced that they have entered into an exclusive multi-year charitable partnership with Food Network.

On June 11th at Gracie's in Providence, R.I. Share Our Strength will host a tour featuring several chefs from Gracie's, the Phoenician Resort, Chez Pascal, Garrison Confections, and Keegan Gerhard, emcee of Food Network Challenge among others.

The 18th Annual Gourmet Dinner in Washington, D.C. will be held on June 12th to raise funds to end childhood hunger.

In other charity news, to celebrate the power of sharing, Shedd's Country Crock ® announced a partnership with America's Second Harvest to launch "Spread the Sharing," a nationwide campaign challenging Americans to tell on million stories of sharing by Thanksgiving 2007. Each time a story is told, a meal will be donated to feed a family through America's Second Harvest.
