The 2006 Oscars were over only a week ago it seems but in reality the show was over even before it began. It was one of the lowest rated and seen Oscars ever televised and the American public just seemed to have no reason to tune in.Lets see exactly why this happened:

The Host:

Starting with the host, John Stewart is not a bad choice at all to host the Oscars. He is one of my favorite people to watch and the John Stewart show is very funny on most nights. With his political sense of humor I thought he would be a great fit. On Oscar night, I don't really know what happened to him but he didn't seem the same. Maybe it was the pressure of performing in front of millions of people on live television. Whatever the reason he just didn't have it. The Oscar's have had worse hosts and some of his jokes about famous actors and actresses were actually funny. However Stewart just didn't have the same impact that a Robin Williams or Billy Crystal has had on hosting the Oscars.

The movies:

The films in the past years were not that great. Let's be honest people. how many people went to see broke back mountain or Cinderella Man. Well I actually did see Cinderella man on DVD and I loved it. I am a huge Russel Crowe fan and that he should win for best actor for his performance. However I think the reason that most of America didn't see this film is that no one wants to be depressed and see a film about the Great Depression. I also don't think that the film was well publicized. With big names Rusell Crowe and Rene Zellwinger this film should have done much better at the box office and it didn't.
