Most, if not all of us, know that the legal drinking age here in England is 18. The birthday almost every kid looks forward to, especially when you can hit the bar for your birthday. Well, the good old U-S of A might also drop their drinking age to 18 because they are attempting to decrease binge drinking. John McCradell, the former president of Middlebury College, says that binge drinking usually occurs when underage drinkers sneak around and go overboard with their drinking.

McCradell states that dropping the drinking age brings their alcohol consumption out of hiding where their parents can monitor it and teach their children responsibility; and he also suggests that once a child hits the age of 18, they would be able to take a class similar to driver's Ed but about alcohol education instead and earn a license to buy and use alcohol. Just like if you get too many tickets for your car, if you are got drinking irresponsibly you get your license taken away. Also, if you have gotten in trouble for underage drinking in the past, then you cannot receive a license until you indeed turn 21.

Many people believe that lowering the drinking age will give college students the opportunity to learn how to drink responsibly through role models at college functions. Statistics show that 32% of underage drinkers are heavy drinkers compared to the 24% of legal drinkers. Even though there has been a decrease in per capita consumption and motor vehicle crashes, during the same time period there has been an increase in other issues related to heavy and irresponsible drinking among college-aged students. Most of these reported behaviors showed little change until after the 21-year-old law in 1987.

If parents taught their kids about responsible drinking from the point when their brains can suck it into their brain and it gets stuck in their moral code, (adolescent years) and they have the experience with alchohol in earlier years, such as 16 or whatever, they will better their children by preparing them for a life of responsible drinking. It's not just about being legal and all that crap, alchohol shouldn be taken for what it is and not looked down upon so much as it is in America. If it wasn't such a bit deal to have a beer after school your sophmore year, people would probably drive better. Bingeing would be looked down upon instead of looked at as an escape...what into adulthood or something? It's rediculous. people just need an attitude adjustment when it comes to Alchohol because it isn't evil, it's supposed to make your throat burn pleasently, not pleasently KILL you. I personally would like to take a last drink if I'm going to be killed in battle at 18. geez >.

The drinking age in the us should be 18 no way around it. I grew up in America and can tell you many stories of people being drunk at 18 and not taking cabs or calling anyone to give them a ride because they did not want their parents to find out they drank when their car wasn't home the next morning. It also just simply goes into when its illegal it's tempting everyone wants it when people tell them they shouldn't have it. People also drink more when they can't just have a drink when ever they want. It also takes drinking out of bars and puts it in basements, forest and parking lots. I can't even say enough when it comes to the discusting thought of being able to fight in a war far from home but not be able to buy a beer. That just sends a selfish image saying well your ready to be killed if we need you but you can't have a drink. I also hate whenever the idea comes up people talk about drinking and driving that has nothing to do with it every one knows thats bad. I strongly agree wi

Where are you getting all of these statistics from. My research paper is on underage drinking and the direction you went with this is the same direction my paper will hopefully go, so I'm curious as to where you picked these facts from

My thoughts are the same. If you can get married at 18, vote at 18, and go to war at 18, then why can't you drink at 18? When you're LEGAL allready!

The drinking age is 21 because of drunk driving... Years ago, the drinking age in the US was 18 like most other countries....

I very much agree, the lower age would actually result in less irresponsible drinking..plus there is just the common sense of it...when you are 18 you can risk life and limb, kill-or-be-killed in the military..if anything, that should be reversed...18 to drink, 21 to go army..
