CBS holds the top market for crime drams, with its many incarnations of CSI and similar ilk. Along with top reality shows Survivor and vastly underrated Amazing Race, there is little else that comes to mind in terms of groundbreaking television. Additionally, viewership has been skewed toward an older audience, something CBS hopes to change with its new 2007-2008 television schedule.

Though CBS has been able to claim the honor of being the most-watched network five years straight, it plans to focus on attracting a younger audience with the 2007-2008 television schedule.

"Those of you who accuse CBS of being too conservative will feel differently when you see the shows we've lined up," CBS Corp. Chief Executive Leslie Moonves told reporters, according to a Reuters story on Yahoo News.

Indeed, many of the new shows are in stark contrast to the traditional crime-based shows that have reigned supreme on CBS for quite some time. To start with, "Viva Laughlin," which will either be a surprise success or a dismal failure, is a combination of thriller and musical, produced by Hugh Jackman. Hugh Jackman has starred in several movies as well as acted and sang on Broadway, so there may be something special to "Viva Laughlin" after all. The show is based on the British hit "Viva Blackpool," and will detail the adventures of a young man attempting to open a casino.

In an effort to attract younger viewers during the 2007-2008 television schedule, CBS unveiled a vampire drama called "moonlight" in which a vampiric PI falls in love with a mortal, and another drama called "Swingtown", which focuses on the lifestyles of 70s swingers.

The daring CBS lineup also includes a comedy floating amidst the deep sea of crime and drama, going by the name of "The Big Bang Theory", in which a pair of scientists attempt to woo a beautiful neighbor.

CBS also adds two new reality shows and additional drams to the 2007-2008 television schedule, and will continue to air CSI, Without a Trace, Criminal Minds and Cold Case, among its other star tv shows.

I have no idea what CBS has done with THE UNIT. That is one of there best shows on the air. Nice to see they are bringing back JERICHO. BIG BROTHER is so bad that they have to air it between NCIS and JERICO in hopes of getting an audience for this show. I would like to know what has become of the UNIT and when will it be aired????

Jericho was canceled. I have a few choice words for them, but I won't share them here. That was the only show I watched on this network and you better believe I won't watch it ever again. I'm beyond my limit on networks canceling shows I'm watching. The Nine? Drive? Jericho. Firefly? Tru Calling, etc.... The heck with all of them. It does NOT pay to watch any new show or get invested in any show. @$#!@#!$#! ---- Sorry... Good reporting.
