I hate the San Antonio Spurs. Not for good old-fashioned competitive rivalry reasons. Nor for silly reasons like they share the same colors as the Oakland Raiders. I wish I could say I hate them because they're good, better than my beloved Denver Nuggets. And while that's partly true, my hatred stems not from their winning ways, but rather how they win. And in some ways, it's not even their fault that I hate them. It's the NBA's fault, from the commissioner's office down to the referees...in some ways... To say only the NBA is to blame would be erroneous as well, as every member of the Spurs team has the system down to a science, and milks it night in and night out. The two factors have combined to form the "perfect storm" of me hating the whole league. And they were so close to getting people excited again. It's a shame.

The era of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird was followed promptly by the Great Depression of professional basketball. No one paid attention. No one watched the games. The NBA needed an overhaul. It came in a wave of young talent. Multiple all-star caliber players were emerging each draft year. Parity returned. Attendance and ratings shot up across the board. Unfortunately, the NBA has, in a single season, managed to break both of its legs and put its crutches at the top of the closest mountain. Crappy analogy, but you catch the drift.

If you are boycotting the NBA because of the Spurs is some what insane, but justified. Instead why not boycott because of not throwing people like Bruce Bowen out of the league for good. Someone who intentionally trips, pushes, elbows anyone in sight and some how gets away with it. He'd be better off fighting Stone Cold Steve Austin than playing basketball.

These San Antonio Spurs aren't like the old-school Spurs, like the Iceman, Larry Kenon. They scored a NBA high 119.3 ppg on the way to their 2nd straight Division Title with a record of 48-34. In the 1978 playoffs the Spurs got their first taste of success as they survived the 76ers. However, in the Eastern Finals the Spurs got smoked by the Washington Bullets, in seven, losing the final 3 games after grabbing a 3-1 series lead. Well, Utah might have a chance, if someone throws the basketball at the noggin of Manu.

Even if the Spurs made it to the Finals legit there would be a "boycott" on them. No one wants to watch the most unbelievably, mind-numbingly boring team play and win over and over again.

I've been boycotting the NBA since that brawl in '04 and haven't looked back or cared ever since.

I did not watch an NBA game for over 10 years until I moved to Phoenix and watched a game in person. I loved it. The Suns are the reason why many people are watching the NBA again, but that is besides the point. Stern had more than enough options to make the situation fair: suspend Diaw, Stoudemire, Duncan and Bown for leaving the bench during the game or just suspending Horry or having Diaw sit out Game 5 and Stoudimire Game 6 (or vise versa) so that the cheap-shot intiated by the Spurs did not cause more damage to the Suns. However, Stern decided to be exactly what he is...an arrogant ass. He even said it is not about fairness but about the rules...is not the purpose of rules to make a game fair? How stupid of a statement is that?

Bunch of BS. But I can't boycott cuz my Pistons are still alive. I hope the Suns make it though because no one wants to see Pistons-Spurs except the purists.

Nobody is watching the playoffs already. Duncan has been getting every call for years and Ginobili has been doing that since he came into the league. Good job.

To say that Amare Stoudemire was rushing onto the court to help Steve Nash is ludicrous. If you look at the seriousness on his face and the manner in which he ran up, it's more than obvious he was completely ready to crack Robert Horry's facial region. God knows he deserved it. Nevertheless, it was justified.

That was good. I like the analogy of Ginobili flopping like a fish all over the court. That's exactly what he does. It's really weird. Also, I'd like to see Duncan pull that cheap foul crap against Shaq in a finals game.

Well written. Keep on writing so I can keep on reading.

Spurs win tonight, and I boycott the rest of the Playoffs. I encourage people to join me.
