Many people assume that prescription drug prices are the just about the same everywhere, and they look for places of convenience rather than searching for savings, but those without medical insurance and prescription drug coverage quite often have no other choice than to compare prices. It would seem that prescription drug prices should be the same when purchased from any major pharmacy, but surprisingly, the prices of prescription meds vary greatly from store to store.

I recently found this out when price checking my prescription medications. I currently don't have health insurance or prescription drug coverage, and when shopping around to compare prices, I was astounded at what I discovered. Like many others, I had no idea the difference in price could vary so greatly from store to store, and my discovery really paid off.

CVS Pharmacy

I usually fill my prescriptions at CVS Pharmacy in Ligonier Indiana because the location is convenient. Ligonier is approximately 10 miles from my home, and although that doesn't sound real convenient, Ligonier is the closest town with a pharmacy. It's easy to drop off prescriptions and shop at nearby stores until they're ready to be picked up. The wait time is usually at least 30 minutes, and the fact that the pharmacy is always very busy lent credence to my belief that all prescription drug retailers charge about the same price for the same prescription drugs.

I called CVS Pharmacy in advance to find out how much my medication would cost. I knew it was quite expensive, and without prescription drug coverage, having the money on hand would be necessary. I wasn't surprised when the first medication I inquired about sold for $73.59, and the second was $55.59. I was prepared to pay $129.18 - if I had to, but I wanted to call around to see if I could save a few dollars. Even a savings of $3.00 would buy an extra gallon of milk.

Prescription Drug Prices: CVS Pharmacy or Wal-Mart?

Prices of prescription drugs can vary greatly from store to store. If you're uninsured, it pays to compare prices.

I AM A SENIOR AND MENTIONED THIS TO A GROUP OF OTHER SENIORS AND THEY SAID THEY ALSO "DIDN'T WANT TO MENTION IT" THINKING SOMEONE MIGHT THINK THEY WERE NUTS.

When calling about certian drugs like narcotics exspecially scheduele 3 narcotics most places won't tell you anything about that drug and often will tell you that they don't even carry it. It's a securety thing.

"If you have medical insurance and prescription drug coverage, by all means opt for convenience" And people wonder why our health insurance costs are so high. It's the "i'm not paying for it, what do I care" mentality.

I too, purchase most of my meds at Walmart, because of the cost. However, I am finding that they stock some very cheap brands of meds that I need and they are not as effective as competitor brands and I do mean generic when I use the word brands...not brand names. I spoke to the pharmacist at my local walmart when I noticed that the new generic that the started dispensing did'nt seem to be working nearly as well as the previous genric brand that I was used to. She explained that Walmart headquarters determines what generic company they buy from and if a cheaper generic was out there thats the one that all walmart pharmacies would be using. I asked if maybe there was someone I could contact and she said it wouldnt matter how many complaints they had the would still stick with the cheapest, even if it was less effective. So keep in mind that sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

Checking Wal-Mart Pharmacie Prices to McCutchens Health Depot in Fort Smith, Arkansas. McCutchens is a lot cheaper than Wal-Mart. You advertise you are Cheaper, but if you call all of the Pharmacies in the FOrt Smith, Ar. area, You will see that you are higher. On your $4.00 List you will see that theres not very much on the list that you can get for the $4.00. Thank You Janett Wofford
