Patrick Patterson, the McDonald's All-American from Huntington West Virginia, has officially signed a letter of intent with the University of Kentucky Wildcats making the highly anticipated decision for Patrick Patterson final.

The 6'8" basketball player picked the University of Wildcats over other offers that included Duke and Florida. His final decision was revealed amongst friends, media and approximately two hundred and fifty fans at a conference that was held in his high school gym. Some of the fans also wore Wildcat blue to support the basketball player's decision.

So why did he choose University of Kentucky over his other offers? The length of distance from his hometown was of high signifigance as it was the deciding factor in his official choice. The local newspaper even quoted him as saying, "Since it's just two hours away I can get back to Huntingon whenever I want to."

Being the top high school senior to be unsigned in the country must have its perk as he is consensus top fifteen player and was even ranked nationally at number eleven by a website called scout.com, another website called rivals.com ranked him at number fifteen and he also ranked fifteen from the Hoop Scoop.

Patterson will become the fourth member of the University of Kentucky's recruiting class. He will join Jacksonville Florida native, AJ Stewart and Alexandria Virginia native, Mike Williams. Along for the ride will be the newly appointed University of Kentucky coach, Billy Gillispie.

Patterson was originally a pick of former University of Kentucky's coach Tubby Smith. He then listed UK as one of his choice schools along with Wake Forest and West Virginia during the summer season of 2005.

Patterson along with his family was in the front row for Midnight Madness which was in October, several months after reporting that his MySpace.com website had been bombarded by messages from UK fans. The newspaper article said that the school reported a secondary violation to the NCAA on the matter but was still hot after the prospect.
