The new game starts off several months after the events from the Wind Waker. Link and Tetra go out searching for a new homeland. Suddenly Link's friend from The Legend Of Zelda Wind Waker, Tetra, gets kidnapped by a leader of pirates on their ghost ship. This is where the story begins and then Link must go and rescue his old friend. Inside of one of the stages, Link must venture into an underwater shrine.
In a new twist for a Legend Of Zelda game, while you are exploring this new dungeon, your heart life will continue to deplete itself. A curse has been placed inside of the water shrine which causes your life meter to constantly drop down. In order to survive, you'll need to use the brand new item, "The Phantom Hourglass", to stop the curse for a short amount of time. In order to use "The Phantom Hourglass", Link must set sail around the islands of the world and get a special kind of sand. This sand is used to refill the hourglass so it can be used again.
The new Legend Of Zelda game is being exclusively released on the Nintendo DS system. At this time, Nintendo has not announced any other console releases for this title. The game will use the same kind of cel shaded graphics that were previously seen in The Legend Of Zelda The Wind Waker. The Phantom Hourglass will continue the storyline from where the Wind Waker ended.
Just like in the Wind Waker, Link will be able to explore the world using his sail boat. This style of gameplay will be similar to the sailing seen in the Wind Waker. However, this time, Link will not use wind to power the boat. This new boat will be steam powered. Classic items to return will be bombs, the bow, shovel, boomerang, and the boat cannon.
