Runaway Jury is a spectacular film that is based on John Grisham's novel, Runaway Jury. The only difference is that instead of a tobacco lawsuit case, it is about a lawsuit involving gun manufacturers.

Gene Hackman stars as Ranklin Fitch, a man who represents the gun companies and who works behind the scenes to make sure that the gun manufacturers don't lose a case. He makes sure that his client has a favorable jury so that they are guaranteed to win.

Dustin Hoffman stars as the lawyer for the plaintiff who is a woman, the widow of a man killed by guns that the defendant produces.

The story heats up when jury selection occurs and both the plaintiff and defense want favorable juries. Unbeknownst to Hackman and Hoffman, a juror played by John Cusak has secretly gone onto the jury with the intentions of scamming the gun company out of millions of dollars and making them lose this lawsuit.

On the outside looking in his Cusak's accomplice, played by Rachael Weisz. She makes contact with Fitch and tells him that Cusak has the power to control the jury's decision in the case. Fitch decides that he needs to find out more about Cusak and his accomplice so he has his men search Cusak's home and computer to find out about their past, background and true identity.

Meanwhile the case is looking bad for the defense as Dustin Hoffman plays the role of a fine lawyer.
Desperate and struggling for answers, Fitch agrees to wire $10 million to Cusak's accomplice to ensure that the defense wins the case. However little does he know that the verdict is about to go against him.

Cusak and his accomplice use the money to buy stock in the gun company and when the gun company is found to pay millions of dollars to the widow, the stock turns into millions of dollars and they become rich.

At the same time, Fitch discovers the true identity of Cusak and his accomplice but it is too late.
