Cape Cod is a family vacation just waiting to happen. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Cod Bay, Nantucket Sound, and Buzzard's Bay; Cape Cod, Massachusetts reaches out into the ocean like a defiant arm raised in a fist. From the moment you cross the Sagamore or Bourne bridges, you know you've found a bit of paradise in New England. Offering up the best of fun for children of all ages, you'll find some great ideas for playing and eating geared especially toward children. Plan well and you'll return from your family vacation with good memories of great times.Mid-Cape greets people with a smile and a wave from Barnstable town, which includes Hyannis, the hub of commercial enterprises on Cape Cod. By staying Mid-Cape you're never far from the Canal or Provincetown or anything betwixt and between. A well-planned family vacation creates loads of fun memories. Start your first day out with a trip to learn about the Cape at the National Seashore. Stop at the Salt Pond Visitor Center for everything you need to know about the National Seashore. You'll find informative talks and lots to look at, feel and talk about in the visitor's center. The Coast Guard beach has a long nautical history and is a great sand castle making site. Sit at the edge of lapping waves building the sandcastle of childhood dreams.
Head for the Coast Guard Beach early, parking is minimal, but there are busses that will shuttle everyone from the parking lot to the beach and back again. When the family tires of the beach, take a jaunt to Nauset Lighthouse, just down the road. On your drive back to Hyannis, stop at the charming village of Chatham that sits in the bend of the elbow. The Chatham Fish Pier treats visitors to the site of fishing boats coming and going. If you're lucky, perhaps you'll be standing on the lookout deck when a commercial fishing boat docks with its load. You might even see a seal or two swimming about waiting for the leavings of the fisherman. Before heading off to another adventure, stop at Nickerson's Fish market for the freshest fish, lobster, and shellfish available.
