Lake Shawnee is a truly wondrous lake located in Topeka, KS, and is operated by Shawnee County Parks and Recreation. Lake Shawnee was originally built as a Work Progress Administration project and began back in 1935. On September 3, 1939, over 5,000 fisherman celebrated the opening day. Over one million people annually visit Lake Shawnee each year. The Camp is open year round, and quiet hours are from 10 pm to 7 am, with the campground opening to visitors from 9 am to 10 pm. Reservations for camping will be needed for any date between May 15th and September 15th. Reservations can be made by calling the campground office at 785-267-1859The Beach opens on may 27th on a daily basis until the swimming season ends. Hours of operation are from noon to 6:30. A new attraction is the addition to a 109 foot water slide. There are many different events held at the lake. Dogs Day Out will be on Sunday, August 27th for a small fee of one dollar per pet. your pet will have free rein of Lake Shawnee swim Beach for a fun filled afternoon in the sun. They will be allowed to play in the sand and water. Treats will be available, as will plenty of shade and fresh water. Bring your pet for some exercise he or she will greatly enjoy! Come on down for the Beach Luau on Friday the 14th in July from 6-9pm. Cost is $2.00 per person for swimming, games, music, and food. Host your child's birthday party at the lake during morning or evening hours any day of the week. Check for availability first. Or host your own adult party with evening rentals of the lake, from 7-9 pm, based on availability. There will be no reservations during special events or during swimming lessons. The cost for 1-15 people is $65, and 16-30 people $75. 31-75 people would be$125 and 76+ people $150. Call now to book your perfect "pool" party!
