There are two great websites that allow you to purchase hotels at a fraction of the rack rate prices. These sites are priceline.com and hotwire.com. Both of these sites allow you to book rooms through their service and receive a great discount. The best way to use these sites is to bid for your hotel room.
These sites both offer the option of bidding for your room. You will first pick your location. These sites offer hotels from all over the United States including Orlando, New York, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Washington DC, and most other major cities. When you pick your city, you then will pick what area of the city you want your hotel in. You will also choose which type of hotel (how many stars) you would like to bid on. Then you submit your bid. You submit a price you are willing to pay. If it is accepted you will get that price.
There are a few downsides to these offers. These offers will be nonrefundable and you will not be able to specific hotel with priceline.com. On the upside, you will get unbelievable deals. I was able to get a 2 story room with 2 bedrooms and a kitchen for $35 dollars a night in Orlando a couple of years ago. I was also able to get a hotel in the Downtown Disney are for under a hundred a night. I checked the hotel website, and the rack rate on the room I had was over $200 dollars. I have also reserved local hotels in the Atlanta area for less than $50 dollars a night.
If you are wondering how to decide on a good price to bid, I have a few sites that can help you. One site is biddingfortravel.com. On this site, people post the bids that they had accepted and tell you the number of stars the hotel was and the area. Although, the host of the website is very particular on how you post and has been known to ban people. Another site that is more user friendly is betterbidding.com.
