With the joys of being a woman come the unfortunate added monthly expense of purchasing feminine care products. Since there are so many choices on the market today, it becomes mind-boggling knowing which one is the perfect product for the inconvenient times in our lives. This often becomes an intimidating and unenjoyable task if one is unfamiliar with what gets the job done with the least amount of hassle. I have used numerous feminine products throughout the years and have ultimately decided that O.B. ranks as the far more superior brand over Tampax. O.B. is by far the best for two reasons: comfort and convenience.

Both brands of tampons are made with cotton and rayon fiber. However, O.B. contains polyester as well. Tampax boasts it's 3-way leak protection abilities. It has an anti-slip grip for secure placement, a built in backup skirt that absorbs fluid quickly, and a newly redesigned width-expansion to fit the natural shape of a woman. Tampax offers five different absorbency levels: super plus, super, regular, slender regular, and lites. In addition, Tampax now offers a new cardboard applicator. O.B. Tampons, on the other hand, boast fluid grooves for locked-in protection. This brand offers four different levels for absorbency, which include ultra, super plus, super, and regular. Ultra is recommended for your heaviest flow days, but for some reason is difficult to find in retail stores.

Takeaways
  • Tampax comes equipped with cardboard applicators, while O.B. does not.
  • O.B. can be purchased at Meijer stores for $6.49 while Tampax costs $5.59 at this store.
  • Using these feminine products involves the slight risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome.

HATE is not a strong enough word for this new "design"! The first time I sneezed when I had one in, well lets just say it wasn't pretty. I find it hard to believe that P&G wont eventually wake up and go back to the original. I would also like them to issue a public apology in their advertising and perhaps reparations in the form of huge coupons if anyone ever decides to buy their product again. And maybe some new underwear for all the pairs I trashed before I came to terms with the harsh reality that my beloved tampax were no longer. And free ice cream. Email your friends and have them write and call Procter and Gamble NOW!

I had no idea that I wasn't alone until I just read this post, however, now I'm even more upset w/P&G - w/so many women complaining (I did as well and received a letter and a coupon to try another one of their "new" products) how could it not make an impact? I have never purchased off label tampons from WalMart or CVS, but I will certainly try it since I hate the new Tampax and have never liked Playtex... It's just sad and disappointing...

Overstock.com has them, but you have to purchase 500!

Hi, the CVS brand regular tampons are almost exactly like the "original" Tampax tampons. I can not stand the new ones either!

i have now called once, and emailed about 3 times. the new design is shorter, cannot be gripped properly, the cardboard applicator does not slide easily. Thank God I am not alone and maybe, maybe someone will listen at P & G. I am sure that the ones who designed this are NOT the ones who use it. Anyone know of an alternative that is similar, I would like to know about it. thank you!

I complained to P&G yesterday and immediately received a reply stating they would refund my purchase price based on the UPC code and another code on the box. They didn't even want them back! I hate hate hate the new design and want to cry. I guess P&G is finally getting the message! I didn't think they'd fully refund my purchase price (of course it was a pack of 100) - and expected a coupon or some such nonsense. I won't buy another Tampax product until they change back to the old design. I now have three weeks... and counting... to find a new tampon for the first time in 25 years!

Hello, to the gal who wants the name of the pharmacy that still carries the old/good style Tampax tampons...The owners don't ship and I think they would be of no help, not to mention annoyed to no end by getting calls to ship when they don't. If you can think of any way I can get these to you or ANYONE who wants them, just let me know how and I will gladly do what I can! :) Any ideas are welcome!

this summer when tampax made the switch me and my sister went to every store in driving distance and purchased over $300 worth of the old style of tampax. The new tampax tampons suck so bad... the stupid skirt actually hurts... I just don't understand why they would fancy up something that was working. I'm pretty bitter... I have called tampax to complain and wrote and e-mail saying that once I run out of the old style I am done with them.

Hey everyone -- I completely agree about all the foregoing comments about the discomfort and disfunction of the "improved 3-way protection" Tamapx. Who did they test these on -- baboons? In fact, I wrote to Tampax as a 30+ year loyal customer blah-blah-blah last year telling them that I was literally PRAYING FOR MENOPAUSE so that I would not have to insert one more of their tennis-ball shape items into my human-shaped vagina. They sent me a coupon for $3.00 credit toward my next box of Tampons. Like a lot of you, I went on a binge of buying alternate brands just to get something closer to the original shape, and I scoured the shelves of every back-country drug store I could find before they restocked. I even suggested to P&G they sell a line of "Classic Shape" tampons to see how they sell. I will try OBs now that I know they be OK.

Can the woman who posted it still get the name and location for the "mom and pop convenience store" that still carried the original Tampax tampons? I would definitely like to stock up for as long as possible also. Please let me know. Thanks!!

I realized just last month that the ORIGINAL TAMPAX was also the Jafeena brand at ALDI (i.e, Tampax won the bid and Aldi just rebranded internally--I know this from my years in marketing and advertising with their affiliates). I was so glad that I could finally get my OLD Tapax again in 2008. Then guess what?... Aldi discontinued that line. Unbelievable! My guess is that Tampax won't make those at all anymore. Whose ridiculous idea was it to change the TAMPAX tampons to this Pearl line (which is just another version of Playtex, mind you); and make the 'old' tampax into something complete useless?!?!!! It had to be a ladder-climber or new Executive trying to make their 'mark' because it's not women using Tampax that would have suggest the change--they were the only brand that many of us would use. I switched after years of pain using Playtex, and now I don't know what else to do. I will switch to ANY other tampon company that will purchase the old Tampax rights and start making them ag

Thank GOD its not just me! I have lucked up a few times and found the "old" tampons from Tampax at convenience stores, but even that is getting nearly impossible. What the *uck were they thinking????!!!! What ever happened to "if it aint broke don't fix it?"! There are few things in life that you use on a regular basis that you can rely on to always work great....and Tampax Tampons WAS one of those things, but no more. These things are damn near impossible to get in all the way and get in comfortabley. I too hvae had leakage issues....never did before. They are HARD to get out of the damn aplicator too! GRRRRR! This is one thing in life that you NEED to be reliable and EASY to use! It had to have been a damn man that did this, it HAD TO BE! I WANT MY OLD TAMPAX TAMPONS BACK! And an apology from the Ahole who did this to us!

These new tampons are the pits. I guess that's what happens when you lose you brain, P & G! To anyone that wants to buy the oldies...I have found an old drugstore that still carries some old stock of the Slender, Regular, Super & Super Plus. They are $5.00 for 20, plus the shipping. I bought 3 yrs. worth and am sitting pretty at the moment. Thank God for mom & pop stores!!! Just give me your email adress and we will go from there. p.s. I called P & G and gave them a piece of my mind....don't mess with my tampons!!!!

I emailed them today as well - they do suck, are uncomfortable and I am so glad to read I am not the only one who thinks this way. Tell all your friends - the way to get through to P&G is to email them at their website which hopefully they will respond too!!
