Authors Note: This news article was submitted a couple of days ago, before it was outdated. After Associated Content declined several times, I've re-submitted it (again) but under a different category just so it'd be published. Unfortunately that means I won't get paid either.

The serious folks over at XM Radio have announced that The Opie & Anthony Show has been pulled from the airwaves for 30 days, effective immediately.

The show, hosted by Gregg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia with very unfunny sidekick Jim Norton, came under fire when a guest known as Homeless Charlie made a comment about Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice- he'd "love to f--- that b---. She needs a f--- man."

Regardless of Rice's MILF status, Anthony interrupted to say he "could just imagine the horror on Condoleezza "Shake Dat Booty" Rice's face when she realized that you were holding her down and f--- her."

"Punching her in the f---face and f--- her," Charlie added while laughing.

There are no FCC restrictions on satellite radio.

The management of XM Radio decided to suspend Opie and Anthony to make clear that "our on-air talent must take seriously the responsibility that creative freedom requires of them."

"We deplore the comments made on Wednesday's 'Opie & Anthony Show,"' XM spokesman Nathaniel Brown.

Hughes and Cumia have also issued their own apologies...

"We apologize to the public officials for comments that we made on our XM show on May 9th. We take very seriously the responsibility that comes with our creative freedom and regret any offense that this segment has caused."

Customers who signed up for XM Radio specifically for the show should expect to see a credit attached to their account.

According to the company (and common sense) "The Opie & Anthony Show" had been filed under "XL"- explicit language. Listeners who surf the dial will see a flashing XL when hitting upon this show or any other deemed potentially offensive. In addition to this precaution, XM also mentions that the content may be inappropriate for some listeners and tells how to "block" channels that feature this type of content.

Jim Norton is unfunny guys Come on! Anyway, Great article. I love O&A. I listen to them on XM. Unfortunetly I didn't hear it when this happened. I did hear the St Patrick's Cathedral one. It's too bad they are always getting into trouble. I love thier show. I hope they are allowed to come back to XM without censorship. bye

After reading this article, I have several things to say. First, Jim Norton is a very funny guy...Jut saw him live for the first time here in Seattle a few weeks ago, and he absolutely killed. Second, if I remember right since I was listening to the broadcast on my way in to work, Bill Burr was in studio, not Norton. My guess is they didn't accept it as news because you editorialized and didn't stick to the facts...Yeah, I know, the regular news media doesn't always stick to the facts either. Finally, XM is claiming, as all of us who have read the press release know, that O&A were not fired over the comments made on May 9, but over their talking about the appology and about the state of radio in general on their May 14 show...XM felt they weren't taking their apology and the issue itself seriously...But again, we all know it's all about the merger. I'll admit, I'm probably a bit biassed...I'm a longtime fan.

It really wasn't funny but we hear bad (not in this context, but in others) things everyday on mainstream TV.

Yes I think Jim Norton is unfunny. Sorry you feel differently. I also don't think O&A should have been suspended, considering the format they broadcast on. Like the Imus situation, listeners know what the show is about and which boundaries will be crossed. As for Marc's comment of me hiding- actually if you click my name at the top of this page, you'll be taken to my profile where several links have been posted for which you can use to contact me directly or, at the very least, find out exactly who I am. Furthermore, if I were hiding, I wouldn't have used my real name. In closing, Marc, I was only 4-years-old in 1977.

Unfunny Jimmy Norton? Your stupid opinion you write in your silly little column doesn't change how pathetic you are. I bet when you were little and wanted to be a writer, You thought "I can change the world with my Pen or Keyboard", well you failed, you're a no one and at least Jimmy has the balls to go on stage unlike you hiding behind a Bill Murray from Stripes Photo. Comment all you want but if they win, maybe your little column will be censored too. If you want to contact me let me know. You worthless figment of a man. With your I don't like dirty Jokes I wish it was 1977-1985, when I was hip and young. You suck.

As far as grammar and spelling go, this was a very well written article. As far as content, my friend it seems that you have your head up your @ss. If you honestly think O&A being suspended (and eventually fired) has anything to do with them not taking their creative freedom seriously then you have no business publishing anything to the masses for I fear that you have actually made everyone who read your article dumber. O&A needed to be removed from the broadcast so that XM can merge with Sirius, it has nothing to do with censorship or fornicating with the secretary of state.

Don't blame Associated Content for you not getting paid. They obviously are smart enough to realize you stink as a writer. If you think Jim Norton is unfunny, you don't understand funny.

"...and very unfunny sidekick Jim Norton..." Let me ask you, the comedic genious that you are, who is a "funny sidekick" in your opinion? Report the news and leave our your editorials...thanks.

Correction: O&A were suspended from the airwaves in 2002. They started at XM Radio in 2004.

you don't understand what is at stake here. you can still run your mouth on your little column, but after they are done "cleaning up" radio. the internet will be next. play into the censors games. that is what they want you to do. do you understand the phrase "useful idiot"? that is you, idiot.
