There are several things you will need to consider before setting out on a camping adventure. The following are some basic factors requirements for any camping trip, although the specific for each factor will vary depending upon individual needs. This guide can be used as the foundation of your preparation checklist but should not be considered to be exhaustive.

1) Shelter
The first thing you will need to consider is shelter. This may consist of a tent of an appropriate size; or if you prefer sleeping outdoors if the weather permits, you may be able to get away with sleeping bags on a tarp on the ground. In any case, shelter from wind, cold, and precipitation is the very first item to consider. Be sure top choose a tent that is appropriate for the climate you will be camping in. You will also need sleeping bags and blankets for warmth, in addition to warm insulated clothes to sleep in and wear while camping. A mat to go under the sleeping bag is nice so that you are not sleeping directly on top of the hard ground. Your back and neck will thank you in the morning. Don't forget a pillow.

Takeaways
  • Remember to bring enough water.
  • Plan as though you will have nothing available to you at the camp site.
  • Remember the toilet paper!
