Some believe that you can read any version of the Holy Bible and they all mean the same. Well if that what true why are there so many versions? That doesn't make much sense to me. I mean this is my opinion of course. I think the main issue or controversy is the ability to 'chose' whichever version 'fits' your lifestyle. From what I have heard, there is even a Bible for homosexuals. Well, I have all kinds of things to say about that, but for now I will leave it alone. Maybe in another article I will touch on that subject.

Do you think that these various versions of the Holy Bible are more confusing then the actual contents? I do, I think that just the idea of having several versions will be confusing to most. That would make them stuck with the question, 'which is the right one'?

To answer some questions many may have, I chose two of the most popular versions of the Bible. I chose to compare the King James Version (KJV) and the New International Version (NIV). Also, because obviously I cannot compare the entire Bible (I would have to write a book), I chose a particular chapter that I feel is very relevant to our dispensation. I chose Acts chapter two, where the Church started. We will dig into the contents and compare the two versions with actual definitions of words. Also, we will note the removal of certain words as compared from the KJV to the NIV.

KJV
Acts 2:1 - 'And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.'

NIV
Acts 2:1 - 'When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.'

In this scripture I notice the only difference, really, is that the word 'accord' is missing from the NIV. What does it mean? According to Webster's, accord means; To bring into agreement. (perhaps unity is an easier way to put it). So I have established that these scriptures are the same, with the exception of the fact that the NIV doesn't mention they were in accord, or had unity. Only that they were simply 'together' (physically). To be 'together' doesn't mean that there was an 'agreement' or unity. Significant? Why sure it is and you will see why later.

I think what anyone who really wants to delve into the Word should do is not to pit one version against another to see about "proving" one more true. What you really should have done in this article is to study the original text (yes I realize that's harder, but it's the only honest way to get to the bottom of the matter). Compare the words of the KJV against the Greek text in Acts *not* against the dictionary... that makes no scholarly sense. Do the same with the NIV and any other translation (they are really differing translations after all, not versions as if to imply that someone just made up the words in it). I think you will find the best translation of the Bible to be the New Revised Version. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to read because great care was taken to not rearrange the words of the Greek text and because they just didn't speak like us "getting it" can take a little work. I think that most people who read the NIV prefer it because it is a good mix of an unbi

Albert - Jehovah and Allah are not the same God. It seems that you are sorely deceived.

Dear Katy, Hi my name is Albert, I use to be on the same boat as you, search for truth, concrete truth, searching for the purpose of life. I grew up Christian all my life, and when ever i ask questions about my religion, they always say, "You just have to believe it". That wasnt a good enough answer for me. So I asked again, " Is there anything on this planet that can answer my questions and can give me proof of true revelation and not manipulated text. Then something amazing happened in my life back in 2001. I opened my mind to Islam. What is Islam? Islam taught the oneness of God(Allah in arabic, Eloh-im in Hebrew; 'Allaha' in Aramaic, the mother tongue of Jesus). What does it mean? Islam translated in English means to submit, to obey, to be sincere and peace. If you study the prophet(Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jonah, Job, Ishmael, Isaac, Joseph, David, Jesus and Muhammad) it is evident that they all submitted to the will of God, obeyed his commandments, and they were sincere. So th

More food for thought: Is God the author of Confusion? With the many different versions, there comes a great deal of confusion. It seems to me that this would not be an issue if people actually believed what God said "Forever, OH LORD, thy word is settled in heaven." God knows what he said. He does not need man to create many translations of what he said. As far as Translations are concerned, My belief is that there can only be one. Otherwise, we have a bunch of confusion. Some say the words mean the same, but when you study back to the original Greek, and not the Modern Greek, you find that there are large differences in what is said.

I did a little research as well on the NIV..with almost frightening results!...the NIV actually left scriptures out..took away..etc..made me confused about who the "Morning Star" was even..!...

Good article! It is confusing and does seem only logical that words have been added and taken away through translation and the many different versions. This is definitely something to consider when reading different versions of the Bible.

Oh I am not a member of any denomination. I am a member of the Church. The same Church that is found is this very passage :) Thanks for your input.

Oh yes I forgot to mention in my article. Food for thought: since the Bible is still the #1 best seller of all time, perhaps that is why there are so many versions..... that almighty dollar - hmmm. Something to ponder!
