Shopping for a visual artist might be intimidating, considering they are so well-versed in things of beauty. I prefer to think in terms of practicality and usefulness, as their materials are used so rapidly, and I am not sure I can find anything beautiful enough for their well trained eye! Here are the top ten gifts under $10 for painters. Something on this list will be useful or fun for any visual artist you know.

1.)Pad-O-Palette Paper Pads – Some artists use quite a variety of colors and all of that mixing leaves their workplace a mess. These easy, disposable palette pads are made of a special paper that will allow them to work even with oil based paints. Artsuppliesonline.com has this product for only $7.46.

2.)Specialty Paint Brushes – I have personally known lots of artists on tight budgets themselves, and they may not always be able to splurge on the best tools for their craft. Check out www.hocraft.com for a large selection of specialty brushes that range in price from $5.50 – $9.50. Your artist friend will surely thank you!

3.)Bagworks Open Canvas Black Tote – All artists have supplies galore and often need to transport them. These Black canvas totes are perfect for the job, as they are both sturdy and can be easily washed. (The artist can also specifically decorate the bag if they like.) Bagworks products can be found at local art and craft supply stores or online at www.madisonartshop.com. These items are moderately priced at only $4.79.

4.)Easel Accessories – Easels themselves can be very expensive, but you can help an artist to accessorize by giving them items for use with their easel. For instance, if they are painting a picture based on a photograph, multi-purpose bulldog clips from Hunt Boston will come in handy. They can safely secure a photograph or note of any kind to their easel. Accessories like this can be found at many local office supply stores or online at www.officedepot.com. Generally these will run between $0.50 - $2.50, depending on the size.

  • Organization may be a problem for a visual artist, buy them anything that will keep order!
  • All artists need to sketch at some point, so drawing pencils and markers are always a great gift.
