Friday Night Lights, It's Not Just About Football

Friday Night Lights is one of the greatest television drama to come around in a long time. Thankfully Friday Night Lights has been renewed for another season. I really can't recall the reason I even watched the first episode of Friday Night Lights, but I am glad I did. On the surface Friday Night Lights looks like a show that centers around football and sports. This couldn't be farther from the truth. The real theme of the show deals with the people of a small Texas town trying to deal with all the social and personal issues that are part of their everyday life and football is just a background for the drama. While ratings have not been great, it is renewed for a new season and I hope more people will give it a chance.

The premise for the show is the struggle of a new high school football coach trying to please a football hungry town while trying to overcome the highs and lows of being a husband and father. Some of the great tear jerking moments are between the coach and his wife and daughter. Being a new parent of a boy and a girl, the moments between the coach and his family seemed very real and touched close to home.

The premise of Friday Night Lights takes place the town of Dillon, Texas and the arrival of a new head football coach at the high school. When Coach Taylor first takes over the head coaching job in Dillon, Texas for the Dillon Panthers, he finds out that the town takes high school football very seriously. After a string of unfortunate events, including his star quarterback getting paralyzed, he realizes that his job might be on the line. Throughout the season, Coach Taylor leads the Dillon Panthers to the playoffs and eventually to a win at the state finals. During the season finally of Friday Night Lights, it is revealed that Coach Taylor has accepted a new position at a state college in Texas.
