Motherhood: Not Just a Job - an Adventure

With Mother's Day behind us, I wanted to write down some of my feelings on the subject of motherhood. No child comes with an instruction manual and every child is different. What works with one will fail with another. It isn't easy, either. You do your best to instill values, morals, a sense of what is right and wrong and pray a lot, oh how you pray, that they will remember each and every lesson you have tried to teach them. If you are one of the lucky ones, one day when they are grown, they will come back and say something like "You know, Mom, I don't know how you did it. You worked, kept us clean, fed, helped with our homework and went without so we could have things. I really appreciate it." I have had ONE of my three say this phrase to me. Most think it to themselves, but if they only knew how good it does a mother's heart to hear it out loud. It has to be the greatest gift a mom can ever receive. What a sense of satisfaction to know it was all worthwhile, that they actually DID listen. Of course, we have to wait until they have children of their own, because then, and only then, can they truly understand.
