Lipovitan was the original energy drink sold in Japan that inspired Chaleo Yoovidhya, a Thai businessman, to formulate Krating Daeng (Thai for Red Bull), a Thai version of the Japanese energy drink. Dietrich Mateschitz, an Austrian businessman visited Thailand in 1982 and discovered that the Thai energy drink helped him recover from jet lag.
